Play, practice and compose Sky: Children of the Light songs

Sky Music Nightly is a free web app for playing the instruments of Sky: Children of the Light on a computer, phone or tablet. Your songs are saved in your browser.

What you can do

  • Player: play your songs or record new ones. Practice mode highlights the next notes and waits for you; approach mode sends circles toward each note and scores your timing. Player guide
  • Composer: write songs on a grid, with layers that each have their own instrument, pitch, volume and reverb, then export them as MIDI, WAV or MP3. Composer guide
  • MIDI import: the composer turns a MIDI file into a song, with the instrument you pick for each track. MIDI import guide
  • Zen Keyboard: just the keyboard, for playing freely, with a metronome. It can also send your notes to a MIDI device.
  • VSRG Composer and VSRG Player: turn a song into a rhythm game with 4 or 6 lanes, by hand or automatically, then play it. Beatmap guide
  • Sheet Visualizer: read a song as a sheet of notes or as text, and print it as a PDF.
  • MIDI keyboard: connect a MIDI keyboard and map its keys to the notes. MIDI keyboard guide
  • Themes and Backup: change the colors and background of the app, and save all your songs and themes to one file.

The instruments

Available instruments: Piano, Grand Piano, Contrabass, Cello, Violin, Guitar, Light Guitar, Harp, Horn, Tuned Krill Horn, Trumpet, Saxophone, Pipa, Winter Piano, Xylophone, Flute, Transverse Flute, Panflute, Ocarina, Manta Ocarina, Harmonica, Aurora, Kalimba, Toy Ukulele, Drum, Fortune Drum, Cymbals, Bells, Small Bell, DunDun, HandPan, Triumph HandPan, Sine Synth, Bass Synth, Chime Synth, TR-909, Dance, Bird Call, Crab Call, Fish Call, Spirit Manta Call, Jelly Call, Manta Call, Moth Call.

Most have 15 keys in three rows of five, as in the game: two octaves of the C major scale and a top C, rising from the top left key to the bottom right one. Drums, bells and a few others have fewer keys. On a computer the rows are Q to T, A to G and Z to B, which you can change on the Keybinds page, and on a touch screen you tap the keys. Keys can show note names, Do Re Mi, ABC, numbers, keyboard letters or PlayStation and Switch buttons. The pitch setting (C to B) transposes the whole keyboard, and each composer layer can have its own. Some instruments keep sounding while you hold a key, and the Aurora can sing three vowels.
